Car Wont shut Off with Key
Hello, recently got a 1991 Jaguar XJS and started it up for the first time. The car only has 29,000 miles and the engine ran very well, but the idle was at around 4000 RPM and the car would not shut off with the key, also disconnecting the battery didn't do anything. Any ideas on what went wrong would be very helpful.
You haven't said what engine you have in your XJS.
I also don't see how it's possible for a petrol spark-ignition car to continue to run with the battery disconnected and the ignition turned off. That will have disconnected the fuel pump, shut down the injectors and cut the sparks to the plugs. The engine just can't run.

Ignition switch electrical section needing some serious TLC, getting very common now.
Read the attachment.
May be other things, but simple FREE fixes are always the 1st and best.
The 4000 idle and associated items, also EASY fixes, BUT, lets get it shutting down first, then continuse the adventure..
Dont forget your warped sense of humour, ya gonna need it.
