Just took possession of my 95 XJS Convertible in green and Tan, The previous owner made a point to let me know the centre caps on the wheels were the wrong colour (Black) and should be red. Seems to me they should be green since Jaguar makes them in green to match the body colour. Is there a correct colour should I enter a Concours?
If you're interested in concours, then you need a copy of the judging guide from JCNA. Then you'll know what you're being judged on. In the parts book all colours are listed under the XJS section, so that is good enough. If they are listed in a Jaguar accessory brochure that would be sufficient as well.
Assuming they are genuine center caps and age appropriate, most judges will only look at condition and cleanliness. You should get a deduction if you used them on a pre HE car for example, as they are not age correct.
Personally, I would go green, since the paint is green.
From what I understand, and according to the attached 1995 sales brochure, red was introduced in 1995 for the 4.0 only. Black was the standard on the 6.0.
I could be wrong but that is what the brochure implies. My '95 4.0 Conv. has both red centers and side badges.
