Condenser Fan trouble!
Hello Im new to the Jaguar Forum. I have a 1994 XJS 4.0. Great running car having problems with the wiring for the condenser fan. Apparently the fan is supposed to turn on when the compresser kicks on, but thats not happening. The previous owner changed some things concerning the fan and im not sure what he did. Having this problem causes the car to run a little hotter than it should. I can't find any diagrams on it. So i chose give you guys a try. Any help would be much appreciated Thank You.

im having the same problem on my 96 xjs. i have had the air con running and it blows nice and cold, but as the fan does not work. when the system gets hot it presurises the ac system and then the gas finds a way to leak out. i have had the ac running and put multimeter on the fan plug. No feed.
can anyone say where the fuse/relay is for this fan?
cheers
Dan.

The fan is supposed to come on with temperature, not activating the A/C. Changing that requires a simple modification which should show up under your good with an out if place relay. Can you confirm if an additional relay exists under your hood?
There is a simple modification you can make that would activate the auxiliary fan when the temperature tells it to OR when you activate the A/C. Is that what you are interested in doing?

I agree with VEE. I did exactly the same thing a month ago when my condenser fan stopped working. In my case the problem was the thermal switch located on the upper left (drivers) side of the radiator. Two problems with that switch: 1) it can fail and, 2) it seems to have a very high temperature threshold for activation.
I decided to bypass it and instead activate the condenser fan every time the AC comes on. I can give you more detail if you're interested, but in a nutshell, I tapped the wire going to the AC compressor clutch (it's front-low, just behind the radiator, and it's what engages the compressor when the command is given for AC). The tap wire went to an after market-relay, which then clicked on and completed a 12v circuit to the condenser fan. About an hour or two of work -- and very pleased with the result.
BTW: Your problem needs to be fixed asap. The condenser MUST operate while the AC system is on, or you'll get dangerously high pressures on the high-side of the AC, which in turn leads to burst AC hoses and/or leaks in the joints.
