Default Convertible top

I have been told that it's a good idea to run the A/C frequently (at least every other week) to keep the seals in good condition.
Here in Florida that is no problem.
However I was wondering about the convertible top mechanism.
I sometimes keep my top down for months at a time.
Is it also a good idea to use it frequently to keep the motor and mechanisms in good order?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

I don't think it would make much difference to the motor etc. but I have heard that it's not a good idea to leave the top down for extended periods.
Having the top up keeps it stretched out and leaving it down can trap dirt and/or moisture.
No personal experience here. Just some things I've heard that seem to make sense.

Agree with Pete on both. Living in AZ the top is mostly down, except June-August, so must be OK. The top is original to the car and looks new. The mechanism is primarily hydraulic, so recommend a quick up-down once a month for the seals, if no other reason.

It is better to keep everything moving and especially for the seals in the hydraulic cylinders and seals at the pump, to avoid leaks.

Same rules as per sun roof and windows - they need exercise - as do mirrors.
