Hi,
In an earlier post I was told that there was two brackets on both sides of the rear 'dash' that could be adjusted so that the windows does not hit the rear seat when I am putting down the top. I adjusted this as much as possible and although it is better the rear glass is still hitting the back seat. I was wondering what else I can try?

Same problem with my 1995 6cyl XJS

The only way that I have found to sort it, is to stop the hood going down before it hits the seats and put a very soft piece of cloth in between, to give it something to slide on.

There are two reasons why this might be happening:

- there are fabric straps running the length of the hood and riveted (i think) to to the frame bars. If these have become detached, the hood can deform slightly when folding and catch the seat. Move the headlining slightly and you'll see the straps. Check they are intact.

- if the hood isn't used frequently, the section of hood below the window can become stiff, causing the problem. Try getting someone to fold the hood, whilst you carefully push the fabric in below the window as the hood starts to lower. This moves the rear window into the correct position and avoids hitting the top of the seat. Do this a few times until the hood fabric has been "trained" to fold easily at that point.

Try and get this sorted. If not, it will catch and rip that section of the seat back. I know this!

A "trick" I use; as you lower the top, turn around in the driver's seat and when the top of the window frame is about an inch from the top of the rear seat, reach back and push the window down into the well.

 

I have the same problem and wasn't aware at time of purchase. My top has a glass window insert and it's too heavy to clear the back seat, now the leather rear seat tops are ripped. Although it's awkward, I lift the glass over the seat top as it retracts.

 

I shortened the post the seat belt is mounted to. Took about 5/8" off. This is only the left side that gives this trouble. at least on my car.
