Don't know if this has been covered before, couldn't find anything, but I decided to do away with the need to be in P or N and have the parking brake on before I can operate my convertible top. I found it too easy to leave the brake on and neither of these are a requirement of my XKR top operation.
So I found the two wires (black/white, black/green) that give these signals to the top ecu, cut them and grounded them permanently via the black wire at the ecu input. Now I don't have to mess with the parking brake (or be in P or N). And I can now lower/raise the rear windows whenever I want.
Yes it has been done, however the "standard" wire people usually do is by the pump, same idea, same wire, different location. Basically you can just make up a jumper wire and ground it. The best part is it's completely reversible. What are you using to do your rear windows up and down?
I just use the roof switch without undoing the the handles as the factory intended but I can now do it while driving.
So does that mean you can "accidentally" operate the top while driving? I'd be concerned about running the hydraulic pump with the latches connected, for fear of it "tweaking" something. But that's just me
