Well, this weekend I'm replacing the ignition wires and checking the plugs. Hopefully chasing down the vacuum leak that is giving me a higher-than-normal idle, too.
Ever since I got this beautiful car (which, by the way, I am enjoying very much, even though there are still quite a few things that need attention...), I have been a bit intimidated by the myriad of hose, clamps, lines, etc. etc. etc. packed into this engine bay.
There are two lines that appear to connect to a 'jacket' (for lack of a better term) around the A/C low-pressure line. The hose is held on with a clamp, and appears to be split under the clamp some.
WHAT IS IT??? I've circled the two ends of it I see....I just have no idea what it is. Is there freon in this line? Air? Water? I'm mystified, and don't want to touch it until I know what I'm getting into....
The circles enclose the tubing I'm wondering about. The one to the right (closest to the driver) looks pretty shabby under that clamp....
Close up of the suspect connection.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!

The device is a FUEL COOLER attached to the fuel return line. When the A/C compressor is operating, the vapor line still has some cooling effect as it returns to the compressor. The fuel that has been exposed to the engine compartment heat will get cooled before it returns to the tank.

Bob,
Thanks for the reply. I NEVER would have guessed that in a thousand years.
