I wanted to take off the valve cover for cleaning.
In the process, I disconnected the air line. When I turned it over there was a split in the hose.
I would have never seen this as it was UNDERNEATH the hose.
I replaced the hose with a red one that I got at the parts store.
Air line
The car runs A LOT smoother now.
If you check yours and you have the same problem, please post back.
It pays to regularly check engine bay hoses and lines, the heat and age can wreak havoc on these things, new vacuum lines would be worth investing in as well if you are unsure of the age of them, any splits can effect fuel pressure, dizzy advance and more.
I'm not sure what your emission regulations are in your area and if you require regular tests.
But my setup in Aus was faulty, and I just removed the complete air injection unit and pipe work. Less engine bay clutter and one less item being driven by the crank.
1/8th BPT bungs go into the head to replace the 6 injection pipes.
No, I don't think so. The air injection pipes go into the exhaust ports. The check valve allows flow from the air pump to the air injection pipes, and prevents exhaust gasses from flowing upstream into the air pump.
If the check valve was faulty, allowing that back flow, the air pump would take a beating.....but that's all I can think of.
