Default Coolant leaking into the exhaust, cyl. 4

Hello, I just joined the forum hoping to obtain a little info about my fathers car. I live in Boston, MA and he moved out to Utah a few years back. The car is a 1994 XJS 6 cylinder. He called me a while back saying that coolant was pouring out his exhaust in liquid form, not smoke. He took it to a shop and they said it is leaking through cylinder 4 and that they don't know if its a cracked head, block, or blown head gasket. They want to charge him 20 hours just to pull the head to find out. I am just wondering if anyone knows of a common issue of a coolant passage near cylinder 4 or maybe knows of a shop in Utah that is familiar with these engines. 20 hours to pull a head just seems a bit drastic..

i think you have the unfortunate problem of not having a v12. Get one of thoes, and this will be fixed, your coolness factor will go up, and youll have plenty of other problems to work out.

Not that mine is the final word but no "common issues" regarding cracked heads or blocks that I know of. The occassional head gasket failure does pop up. I suppose a severely blown HG could cause this.

I agree that 20 hours *to pull the head* for initial inspection seems very high.

Cheers
