Default Crack in shield near muffler/silencer?

Greetings members,
Looking over some underside photos of an inspection taken yesterday on XJS . . . what part near the muffler is cracked? And, can this part be replaced? Is it some sort of heat shield for the muffler Curious.
Best wishes,
Charles

Those heat shields are often a sort of fiberboard and can crack easily if the edge of a hoist pad caught it when lifting the car. Usually to replace them the exhaust system would need to come down, but to be honest I wouldn't bother.

Looking at the parts diagram I think that's CBC4487. Doesn't look like it's available.

I agree that the split is no big concern.

If you wanted to try patching it back together some exhaust manifold gasket material might be useful. Perhaps you could use rivets to attach the patch to the existing heat shield?

Cheers

Mine were repaired using Hi-Temp RTV, Grey in colour, layered it on, worked it into the crack both sides, then after a few trips, blended nicely with the rest of the colour scheme.
