I thought I'll go and buy new ones and all nut stores scratch their heads - they do not know what size/thread this nut is. I can use the old ones, they are not too bad. Nevertheless, does anyone know what nuts these are and if they can be purchased in the US?

 

Page 06-2 of the ROM has the information 7/16 UNF

 

Thanks, I have the ROM, just neglected to look at it. However, there is no thread mentioned. All nuts I see on sale are thread 20. I wonder if that's the correct thread.

 

7/15-20 is UNF so they are the correct nuts.

 

Thanks. No I wonder what grade nuts are these. Will grade 5 do? There are markings on these nuts, but I can't find a description for such markings. Nuts marks. Mine have two little notches at 180 degrees. Life is not supposed to be easy, is it?

Edit: End of story. A bag of 50 nuts grade 8 from eBay, $13.95. I figure this size of nut is used all over this car.

 

Grade 8 is what you want. Most of the botls/nuts are UNF 3/8 and 7/16 are used a lot.
