('93 convertible) A crack in the finish on the glove box veneer and a chip in the trip computer surround veneer has me searching for repair/replacement options. Is it possible to refinish just these two pieces and have a reasonable match to the untouched pieces? The other option is to replace the side vents, centre vents, glove box (no air bag) and trip computer surrounds. Obviously, more expensive and would I then have issues with matching the instrument surround and ski slope? If I pursue the later option, can I buy these pieces pre-made or do I need to remove the existing pieces and then send them somewhere to have them re-veenered and finished?
If best to pursue the replace or re-veener option, anyone have a recommendation on supplier? I've seen Britsh Autowood, CG Woodcraft and Jaguar XJS Interiors (in GB).
Personal experience with British Autowood. They are excellent.
You could always call Saul at British Autowood, send him a couple photos, and just ask his recommendation. Based on my interactions with him I don't think he'd try to upsell you something you didn't need.
Another option is to cover the existing wood with a Mactac oak burl peel and stick type film. This, of course, depends on whether you want the OEM materials or not.
I suspect this method will simply just not do for Jaguar owners.
OTOH there is this. Walnut Burl Veneer Deals @ Veneer Factory Outlet.com, Wood Veneer
I have not checked into this as part of a quest to loose the ashtrays and fit cupholders.
I stripped and redone mine, but then I changed the veneer completely and used a water fall babinga wood veneer. it is time consuming and for some parts you need some kind of vacuum bag
vacuum sealed. Do not own a regular vacuum pump and bags. A bit of ingenuity, use a Space Bag and my shop vac LOL
10 coats of Polyacrylic, applied by brush, hand sanded between coats. 4 coats of spray on Ploy, followed up by 4 coats of Liquid Glass polish
Nicely done Daverb !
The bubinga wood is one finish I had been looking at, because it is very similar to OE. After doing all the dash pieces, the ski-slope would be a piece of cake !!

Here is were I found the veneer, the prices are reasonable, and they have info on doing veneers and other products related to them. Love shopping on ebay!!
I would replace what you need and then sand everything down with a 220-400 grit and reclear everything. This should blend it all together nicely as long as your replacement wood is of the same variety. Test the replacement veneer first and see if it generally matches in color.
