Default Distributor Cap Hose Routing

I just bought a 1989 XJS Convertible and I am in the process of fixing all of the issues that have been neglected or improperly repaired.

One item I have noticed is that there are no hoses connected to the distributor cap. I assume these hoses were removed at one time.

Can someone show a diagram or photo to tell me where the hoses should connect?

Also, where is a good place to find new/used parts? I need a few things starting with the Cruise Control Cable.

Thanks!

Mark

You are NEW, so welcome to our side.

I am assuming a Lucas distributor???.

The 2 hoses are the vent, and I fit them thus:

1) Top hose TO the elbow in the AAV inlet hose.
2) Side hose TO the small filter thingy, usually just dangling near the LH bonnet lock.

ENJOY.

Hi Grant,

Thank you for the info.

You are correct about the Lucas cap. Please tell me what the "AAV" is.

I'm hoping someone can post a picture of the top of thier engine. That might help me figure out another hose that I found in the engine bay (front, left fender) that appears to have no place to connect. I know it has to go somewhere!

Thanks again.

Mark, I just answered that in the separate thread.

Mark,

OK, AAV (Auxillary Air Valve), rear of the LH cylinder head. Among other hoses, it has a 1" hose going from the snout to the rear of the LH air cleaner backing. In that hose is a "plastic" (if you are blessed) elbow that the hose FROM the cap attaches to, thus giving a draught effect to that vent system.

If that elbow is "gone", simply aquire a brass elbow of suitable size to fill the void, which will then outlast the car.
