ah,, haha that gave me a laugh... I work for the man.... retirement is 7 years away.... so I will "Try" and keep mine Legal... though I did a run from bank clock to bank clock Tallahassee to Pcola 45 minutes (hour difference) about 188 miles 105 minutes when in college and it was 55mph national speed limit (statue of limt. clears me to admit that one...) CAZY As a loon kid! ( I would Never do anything like that now!)
I will be doing some dyno pulls here with in the next few weeks...
hoping to at least show 200 to the rear wheel with No mods and 105k miles on the engine... if not no big deal I enjoy it! and the exhaust restriction seems to be clearing itself up... hmmmm..... ? flowing and warm on the left side YEAH...!
the salt flats is a good speed event but I would prefer an OOR but you have to "know" some one and they limit entries and have wait list...

Car Shows
Having competed in many car shows with my '69 GTO Judge, I eventually got burned out on the whole car show thing. Stopped being fun so I stopped participating with my cars.
However, a very astute friend of mine changed my thinking.
His point is, when one enters a car into a car show, you get a much better parking space than having had parked in the spectator lot!
Case and point, this year I entered the XJS in the Mad Dogs and Englishmen British car show at the Gilmore Museum here in Michigan.
I intentionally left the assigned voting number for my car in the goodie bag, not that my car would've won anything. No matter, there were much nicer XJS(s) in attendance than mine. I used the copious boot as 'home base' to store lawn chairs, coolers and the like, enjoyed the short walk to hang out with my buddies.

I have entered one in my home town only so far, that was about 2 years ago and took 1st place for best import. since then I have been doing some work on it and did not get it in time to enter the XJS, but did enter my Vanden Plas this year and took 1st place for best import. UUMMM, seems some judges in local car shows like the looks of Jags, what would happen if I manage to enter both next year

I've done several JCNA concours and a Slalom sanctioned by the same. While it's not a "judged" event I've had it on the Fairway at Amelia Island Saturday the day before the Concours at Hecock's Cars and Coffee the past three years. Attachment 136284 Attachment 136285
small world; my 1978 XJS roadster was at the very 1st Amelia concurs,(by Mercedes benz) 1996, drove it to event from Daytona Bch, and back with wife on board!

I can't speak for Florida but here in Alberta there is a session at a roadcourse race meet that allows regular street cars to lap at speed. No competition license required or no roll bar except for convertibles. You could check with local sports car clubs to see if there's anything like that there.

I entered a local show this summer put on by the Lions club - first show I ever entered. A friend from work encouraged me to go and I'm really glad I did, met a lot of people and had a lot of fun. It was judged and had prizes of some kinds but I was pretty sure my car wouldn't win anything (correct). It didn't cost much to enter and the money went to a good cause. More of a social event for me. I don't think I'd go to a very competitive show, that might remove a lot of the fun for me.

I took the red XJS to a British car show last weekend and had a blast. Met up with a lot of people I have known for years and was the only XJS in the show out of about 80 cars.
Car shows are a great way to meet people and get your ride out so others can check it out. You so seldom see a XJS out being driven any more that the average person just never will see one or have a chance to look at one up close.
I do not go to get judged or for awards-in fact I usually leave before the awards are given out to make sure I am not thinking about that. I did put together a picture board for this last show I attended which showed the cover of three magazines that did a special spread on the XJS in the last few years. Figured it was a good way to let people get a quick glimpse of what is going on in the world of XJS.

jon not yo worry about the type of salt at Bonneville!
been there twice,(without my Jag), my daily street driver, they have in town Wendover, and under car wash system, recommended way was do NOT wash salt off each day, wait till ready to leave last day, then under wash it twice!!
been 10 years, and wifes car has no rust anywhere under!
i stayed till end of speedweek, no sense leaving till you see some of the most unusual cars ever seen, it is encredible experience , and the kind of car guys are absolutely great!
any car guy worth his salt should go at least once, and leave a donation for "save the salt"!

Always been my line of thinking. Chairs, cool drinks and shelter always handy with a parking spot central to the action.

Jon , if you do go to Bonneville salt flats, and stay for 3/5 days, after you get oriented to the layout, you gotta experience the early morning wake up time!
get to the race track BEFORE sunrise, bring coffee or what you please, and folding chair, go way down course, maybe 1 mile or so!
they dont allow engine start noise before 8 AM , so way down away from crowd , super quiet, almost unearthly, and sit and wait for the SUN to arise out of the white Salt horizon!
you will never forget the experience!!
Ron
