Default Does my ALBS system have a relay?

Hi,
Just wondered if my 1990, 3.6 XJ-S will have a relay on the ALBS? I presumed it would as I have seen posts here relating to the failure of same but can't find any reference in the manual as to where it might be located.
Thanks,
LeeP

There is a relay.

Here are the schematics for the ABS system on the US cars;

LeeP,

What is the problem you've got with the brakes? Of all the ABS problems I've seen, I've not heard before of a relay being the cause.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your interest.

In a nutshell the ALBS light has been on ever since I boughtthe car (I discovered this when I replaced the blown bulb!). I cannot get the warning light to flash codesat me when I bridge the contacts in the diagnostic socket (the bulb just stayson all the time). My next move will be totry the various tests listed in the manual by testing the ECU and the various otherALBS components with a multimeter.

However, in the meantime I had read on the forum of peoplehaving trouble with dirty contacts or dodgy solder on the ALBS relays sothought I would try that first.

Any other thoughts appreciated.

Cheers,

LeeP

LeeP, the ABS pump should run for 20-30seconds and then shut off when you turn the ignition on. This pressurises the system.

If the pump does not run then first check the fuses.

Hi Warren and thanks for this.

The pump works fine as do the brakes so I think everything is OK except the ALBS function does not work. I'll try the various electronic checks in the manual and let everyone now how I get on.

Cheers,
LeeP

The ABS has a failsafe mode. If the ABS fails it will turn the ABS light on. In this mode you only have FRONT brakes NO REAR BRAKES.

I would start with the wheel sensors, pull them out and check for damage on the sensor face.
