A used one should be fine, as long as it works and they will take it back if it does not. But take a look on ebay and ask about breakers who have XJSs to take to bits. They are lots much cheaper in the UK. This is a link to a UK refurbisher, worth a phone call I would have thought. You can explain you need the cats version.

or they have an own-unit refurb service:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173967795...QAAOSwM81dLwyq

They provide a lifetime guarantee and 400 UKP (= about 550 USD) is a LOT less than 1900 USD!

"A used one should be fine, as long as it works and they will take it back if it does not".
Therein lies the problem. They all say that the ECU they sell came off a working car but that's no guarantee. I have been burnt many times and I am not in the mood to take the chance. So, I buy one and it does not work, I have to foot the bill to send it back, then wait another 2-3 weeks to get my refund. The only way I am doing that is if I find one locally within driving distance. I will keep on searching.

I bought a "Basket Case" XJS (85) for parts. (Wife not happy so I have a deadline). The body is rusted but intact. I am salvaging some parts that I need for my current project. The car will be going to the JY within the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the ECU was missing from the car.

I am still looking for the ECU for the car. I picked up 2 at the JY but still a no go. My friend came by with his XJS and I installed his ECU on my car and we let it run for about an hour just to keep it alive while I find the ECU for my car.

Thorsen. I don't think I want to put that kind of money into this car. I am sending one of my ECUs to AJ6 engineering today so I am putting the car in storage until after the Christmas holidays. By then, I will have the ECU back even though I was told the wait time will be a couple of months.
I have my '88 H&E project to complete. The H&E runs and drives, interior almost done. I have to sort out the Delanair 111 system before I button up the interior.
The body work will be completed shortly. I just ordered new rocker panels from Wolf Steel in Canada but the wait time is 8 - 10 weeks. They are made to order.
If anyone is interested in metal panels for XJ6/12 and XJS the website is: alfaparts.net.

UPDATE: I received a "new" OEM ECU from a chap in Redding, England. he guaranteed that it was an OEM ECU and I sent a relative of mine who lives over there to pick it up for me. He told my relative that if it did not work he would refund the money when he got back the ECU.
Well, the ECU arrived in the US and IT REALLY DOES LOOK NEW. I immediately plugged it in and the car is ALIVE. (pics coming soon.)
Thanks to everyone who stayed with me on this project especially Greg , Grant, BenKenobi and Jay who gave me the encouragement when I was ready to give up.
I will post some stuff in the near future detailing the whole process. Meanwhile............. Bodywork and paint.
I am farming out the paint stripping to someone else and since the body has no rot, any minor imperfections in the body will be addressed before sealer and paint is applied.
A BIG THANK YOU AGAIN TO ALL OF YOU.

Well done Sanchez. You richly deserve all the fun you will have with the car.
How did you set up the fuel tank system, finally?

@ Greg: The fuel tank conversion was planned for the 1988 H&E XJS. That conversion is on hold.
I bought a "SNIFFER" and found that the 1/2 inch fuel lines were leaching fuel vapors so much that the sniffer beeps went off the chart.
My plan is to buy some barricade hoses first and see if that solves the issue. If not, I will proceed with a fuel cell.
Again, Thank you so much for your input.
