Talking Drove my XJS to work today for the first time...

So my new to me 95' XJS made its first trip on the road today after sitting for 4 years.. Other than the tires being severely flat spotted, the car ran great.

Getting tires installed later today. AC is the only option I can find that does not work. Found the original owners manual under the passenger seat and read it over last night.

I am also replacing:

All coolant hoses/coolant
All brakes and flush the system with new fluid
Change the Transmission fluid/filter
found a few relays that were bad
Belt/Belts
Spark Plugs

Car only has 56K miles on it.

When you're all done a bullet point narrative of everything needed to recommision the car would be great, IMHO. It seems like many people consider buying Jags that have sat unused for years. It would be helpful if they had a real world example from someone who has been there....just so they know what they're getting into.

Just an idea.

I'm looking forward to doing the same thing one day. I have two jags - both xjs v-12 one 78, one 79. the 78 sat around for 18 years after being purchased by the gentleman I bought it from. Its a recovered theft and has only done 25,000 km. the white one I bought as a donor vehicle, but as I couldn't bring myself to part it (second owner with 58,000km on the clock) I have just finished buying all the suspension, brake and engine parts I need to turn it into a real gem. Hopefully my day to drive it will be in around 8 months!
I have started a blog for anyone interest with pictures and commentary Jaguar XJS V12: It's Here!

I'm doing my own resurrection on an XJS so I sympathize! I signed on to follow your blog, you're a bit ahead of me but I hope to catch up soon.

Default I am in the same boat

I have been doing a budget restore on a 1987 XJS Hess & Eisenhardt convertible. I have had to replace the hoses, belts, plugs, shocks, tires, exhaust, brakes, radiator, fan clutch and many misc. items. I have been able to store my Jag at work where I can also work on it. I am finishing my second masters degree, working 2 jobs and all the other things involved with living. Working on the Jag is a blast! I turn on the classical music, put on the shop coat, take a big drink of water and began the days adventure. I am about a month away from stage one which is simply getting it running and on the road. I cannot wait! The only problem I am currently having is all of the drool marks being left on the car by everyone who gets near it. Isn't there some sort of anti-drool polish that Jaguar put out for just such a situation as this?
