Rex
This is what I did, I found a bit of Bundy tube: O/D just less than the hole, and carefully flattened it one one side to grip the "D"-shaped inner spindle. Worked a treat.

The Bundy tube was the only thing I could find rigid enough by thin enough to fit between the hole and the spindle.

I used a piece of stainless tubing just like Greg suggested. It doesn't take much to turn the adjuster.

If you have a later car with the airbags, a piece of tubing also makes a great airbag disarming tool to allow steering wheel removal.

Or pop the ECU open, unmount the pot from its bracket, remove the bracket and mount the pot in the access hole. Done.

I used a plastic ball point pen housing, it just slipped right over the knob and it was easy to turn I could feel the clicks as well.

I used the metal tubing from a small paint brush. did have to crimp it, then added a bit of solder to the seem after the fitting. I also wound some tape on for the handle/finger end. will try to remember to take a pic to show you. I saw one once on Ebay, I think they were asking about 35 dollars

Is there a writeup on how to reset to baseline and what each click does in either direction?
