Default Engine Hoist

I want to own my own cherry picker. Will this one from HFT be strong enough for the V12 engines?

Shop Crane, 1 Ton Capacity Foldable

Thanks in advance

No direct experience but it looks OK to me. I think a fully dressed V12 comes in at about 700 pounds.

If you plan on putting the engine on an engine stand that's where extra consideration comes in as the V12 is a bit long-ish.

Yes, a 1 ton lift will do fine.

I would say no my crane is 1250kg capacity this is on the shortest arm with the long arm it is 500kg which is just enough to lift the engine and trans as a unit with a safety margin. You need to the V12 very high to getr it out of the bay with the trans attached so when you buy one make sure the longest arm position has the capacity.

As I understand 1 ton is around 900kg making the longest arm setting about 300kg not enough to lift the engine safely. I would go for a slightly bigger one. You do not want the RAM to fail while your hands are in there.

i'm with warron on this one,

when you lift a jag v12 with the trans attached, it will break that thing in pieces, bend over to side or buckle.

nope! not me. i used a truck engine hoist and it was staining at that! was at my home garage.

in my big shop i had 5000lb. electric hoist, that would do it on problem.

I bought their 2 ton version of that engine lift, but, I don't see it on their website now.

Why not remove the engine *without* the transmission attached? I never keep 'em together unless there's no other choice. Good grief....all that extra weight and length to contend with?

That, and remove the radiator so engine basicaly comes out of the front of the car.

Just my two cents :-)
