Default Euro Headlamps, why are they such a pain to put back in

a while back I mentioned that I decided to go back to the original Euro style headlight just for a change for a while. So, still haven't got the in yet because whenever I get one side clipped in, the opposite pops out of the mount.. is there some sort of sorcery or witch craft or a spell to get them in. I have all the correct mounting brackets, that I know because the car originally came with the Euro headlights. If all comes to push and shove, I will duck tape and superglue the things in, (just joking on that). any suggestions will be appreciated

Total pain. Placing some foam in between the gap on the clip so that the bit that clips into the headlight is more firmly held, once located, sometimes helps. In the main pic in this advert, pushing some foam down the horizontal slot between the front and back of the clip.
I did look once at fabricating something better, but the rear problem is how to make a fixing onto the actual light unit, as the tabs are so small and room non-existent.

Once you have figured it out - can you please write it up - this is on my to-do list which I have procrastinated on for some time because they were difficult to get out

I also noticed that my lights are different, so I must have an old type and a newer type, which I have been scratching my head over as well

2 different light bulbs

Part number is correct for this type, have 2 light bulbs each for low beam and high beam

Part number not correct for my year

Thanks, I will have to check it out and maybe try it. I also was going to try to come up with something different, but like you said space is somewhat limited. Figure since I am putting the old girl up for the rest of the year, I will leave them out and try to figure something. I saw those on Ebay also and marked them on my watch list, only they do seem a bit pricey.

there should only be one bulb for the hi/low beam, the bulb to the right looks like what I have for my fog lamps. as for the lights they look right, but not sure why there is what looks to be a rubber plug on the bottom on the one. Here are the numbers from mine, they should be the same as yours Right 480394 Left 490393. Getting mine out wasn't a problem, but now that I have found a replacement for my left one, I decided to re-install them for a bit just to have a change in looks, but they are a pain to get back in

Early cars use 2 single filament H1 bulbs, while later use the dual filament H4.
Mine had new headlamps mounted in 1989, so I use H4, and the H1’s I had bought according to the user handbook is now sitting on the shelf...
Mine are not too difficult to get out or in, but I have recently lost alignment on right side after a quick drive. 200 km/h shouldn’t be an issue I guess? 😎
