Exhaust change (1992 XJS convertible) - guru pulse check?
Hello everyone...
Quick pulse check with the gurus!
I'm very seriously considering an exhaust change. I like hearing a motor - some! - not loud, but you know: something like a new sports car sound (as much as possible with a 92 XJS)...Motive - no offense intended!: I feel my car (which is new-like overall - a full stock car) is ***too*** "old man-ish" in sound (no sound, really). I also feel as if one should at least hear a rev "growl" from a v12 (and a distinct "purr" otherwise). Many have said this to me - of course, they don't know what the XJS was designed for (touring). I'm keeping my XJS by the way - a modification, as intended, has no effect on that implied issue (re-sale).
1. Thoughts/experiences? (issues/problems)
2. Specific equipment used? ("X" or "H" piping - brand/part number of muffler - resonator usage, etc.)
I'm likely limited to Magnaflow or Flowmaster...my local shop is great though. They are nice folks.
Many thanks...

Most agree that hearing 'a little something" (anything at all, really, other than 'whoosh') is not out of line for a GT-ish Jaguar.
My experience:
Removing the front mufflers (the ones under the back seat area) give a slight increase in nose level, a slight purr tone.
I then replaced the rear mufflers with these:
Classic Chambered Exhaust Inc. - Products
More sound for sure, but not loud, and no drone...I liked it
But......
It's a rather odd exhaust tone. More like two straight-sixes than a "V12". I never tried it but an H-pipe or X-pipe is supposed to give it a more "V12-ish" sound
Lots of others will chime in
Cheers

I know your looking for a specific tuned setup, but I've always liked the idea exhaust cutouts with an H or X pipe before them. Like others have said, V12's don't benefit from X pipes like V8's, but I think Doug is right about the more "V12-ish" sound as a result. I always refer back to the following video:
It's loud and proud when you want it, and quiet when you don't. The only issue I can come up with is separating the exhaust banks for diagnosis when an issue arises. Maybe a divider of some sort could be fitted in the H pipe?

Update...
Hello everyone...
Update: my new Mgnaflow mufflers were installed last week and I'm very satisfied thus far. Still need to drive him some more to get a better assessment of things (mid-high speeds), but the "normal" city driving/idle sound is really nice.
I'm hoping my pics and video display well. Included: the model number of the mufflers. An "H" pipe was also utilized (as depicted). The tips are also Magnaflow.
The nice fellow who installed my new system has been the shop owner for almost 40 years - I even assisted him and we had quite a bit of fun!
Have a Merry Christmas...Jerry
