exhaust help!
okay, so i am deciding to do the full mufflers on my car, and i have two and a half inch down pipes, with no cats.
I want a system similar to the one on here HIGH QUALITY XJS EXHAUST SYSTEMS from AJ6 ENGINEERING / AJ6 Engineering
so could someone tell me what kind of mufflers or resonators i would have to match that? it looks like the just left the rear reasonators, and im only planning on running one muffler/reasonator so what would i put on to match that?

2.5 seems a bit large for the down pipes the originals on my car were 1.75 from the manifolds very short to the collector and then 2.0.
I have just had a full 2.5 installed and with 1 muffler and resonator per side it sound great. Just make sure the mufflers are straight through with perforated pipe, so you can look through them. I did not install a Xover pipe both sides are separate.
Magnaflow mufflers are good.

Same as Warren, almost.
Standard front pipes, Lukey full flow in the middle, and 2" overaxle pipes with simple Hotdogs at the rear with a twin pipe chrome branch tail dress pipe on each side.
Tried it with no hotdogs at the rear, and waaaay too barky, like a rice car YUK. the hotdogs added that "throat", and all that was done in 1996 and is still solid, and still sounds "just right".
NO crossovers at all, dont really see the advantage for my motoring style, although some claim all sorts of improvements, whatever rocks your world I suppose.

Yeah, i wanted a more agressve sound and i wanted the same setup as that aj6 setup, because they obviously spent much time engeneering it. I have 2.5 highflow down pipes and i was going to keep the exhaust consistant all the way back. But i am goinf to weld a custom rear diffusor in the rear and run centered exhaust (will do another post as soon as i get there) so i only have room for one muffler case

I think this has everything to do with balancing the firing/breathing pulses on each bank and depends on the firing order of the engine. Some engines do not have an inherent imbalance so a balance tube or x-pipe offers no gain. The science of it all is over my head.
Jaguar used a balance tube on the V12 E-types, though, to tune the exhaust note....and they DO sound lovely :-)
Cheers

Whereas the V12 alternates firing from one bank to the other. It was interesting that torque decreased on the Ferrari V12 with a X pipe.

most of you guys have seen mine,2 1/2" downs, no cats , into two full thru mufflers, exiting into a 5" turn down, side pipe! big diameter produces DEEEP sound not harsh, it echos in the pipe.
all 12 cylinders right at my side is LOUD, but in the proper mood,it is fantastic at 7000rpm!
it could easily be changed to rear outlet, but i think i'll leave that to someone else.

I have 2.25" pipes on JagZilla with gutted cats in the downpipes, and no secondary cats. I run Flowmaster Delta 40s where the stock front mufflers were, the pipes run under the rear suspension, and exit through two Monza dual tipped resonators (actual fiberglass-packed resonators, not just dual chrome tips).
I like the snarl it has compared to stock, or even to my other XJS (stock cats, stock rear resonators, deleted front mufflers).
I've attached 3 sound bites I made back in 2004, when I first installed the exhaust with the old motor. I have no idea how the GTJ motor will sound through this setup.
The one labeled "Idle and Rev" is how sounded upon startup with a few revs to bring your pulse level up.
"3000rpm Drive-by" was recorded at roadside while I drove past at 3000rpm & 80mph.
"6000rpm Drive-by" was recorded at roadside while I drove by in 2nd gear at 6000rpm & 105mph (this was when the car had a T400 with a TransGo shift kit, which allowed me to hold 1st and 2nd gears to redline and beyond).

It's been 4 years since the car moved under it's own power. However, if I remember correctly there is a bit of drone between 1500-2000rpm, but, my driving style/environment rarely has me in that range.
