Fan clutch upgrade for XJS V12
My 1987 XJS has been in need of a new fan clutch. After some phoning around, I discovered that the stock one was not immediately available. I did some research on the net and found that there was another part that is a direct bolt on.
I ended up using the Four Seasons part #36956. It has a little longer shaft which puts the fan about 1/2" closer to the rad (not an issue as there is plenty of clearance and it probably helps it pull more air). This is a heavy duty clutch which also spins the fan slightly faster.
Hayden also has this clutch, part #2747.
I believe that this is a good upgrade for any V12 to help the "challenged" cooling system. It probably makes a little more noise and may hurt fuel mileage some, but it's worth it IMO to not overheat the engine.

I wasn't sure my fan clutch was good, and when I pulled it I found the fan was cracked and ready to explode apart. Since I had everything removed already I purchased an electric fan and mounted it inside the shroud. Now I can manually turn the fan on, or wait until the temp triggers it. My engine runs considerably cooler even on very hot days and climbing steep hills.
