Default front brake upgrade

actually a redo of my 18yr ago brake up grade.

i learned that you do not use new factory quality rotors with aggressive race pads. also i'v found i dont need 200mph brakes,(imagine that)!!

lost .125 thou. (3MM) off the rotors. they junk.

now have new EBC gold sports car rotors(supposed to be great metals).

rebuild WILWOOD 4 piston light weight calipers(saved 10lbs per wheel), HAWK street pads, flush the system, and go try it out.

Nice looking brakes. What are you going to do to the rear brakes? I am going to replace my front and rear rotors and pads. I was thinking of EBC, but they don't have a middle grade rotor, it's either stock style or the Gold for the XJS cars. I understand there is the possibility of rotor wind noise with slotted and dimpled. I don’t have any experience with anything other than stock. I currently have EBC's "RED STUFF" on the stock rotors with very good results and almost no brake dust. I will be going back with Red Stuff no matter what rotor I end up with.

rears are stock rotors resurfaced(skimmed), drilled and chamferd, Hawk pads, they are in great condition, only around 7000miles!

i'll update on wind noise from slots, but exhaust is probably more noticable!

maybe more tire noise than rotor noise! wide tires can be noisey.

cal you would need a vertical milling machine,( i used an INDEX vertical mill) to make the brackets, mine are made from a piece of 3/4 by 2" billet aluminum bar stock.

place the new caliper on the disc, free hand, then mock up a paper bracket, then transfer to the aluminum, kinda need the car in front of you at the same time, just to hand fit things!

of course if you had a C<N<C machine you could make 100s of pieces, but not many people would buy such an item!

OOPS, then somebody has to program the CNC, thats a different world of knowledge.
