Default Fuel injector clamps and ferrules

Hey guys,

it's been a while since posting something here... Busy world... Question which is probably really easy to answer:

The ferrules used, as fitted per factory to the HE-V12s, use a barbed section on the rail as well as on the injector as a "clamp". The ferrule just stops the end sliding off.

I noticed that my barbed sections on my injectors aren't perfect. Meaning that some have a tiny bit of metal missing. Question: is it important that all barbs should be fully there OR can I also use a clamp as a kind of leak protection?

What are the general opinions on this? I would normally go out and buy new injectors and sort after a new rail (or better one) but I don't really fancy doing it right now just for these parts...

In all my time, any barb that is NOT spot on, so they get the sharpness removed, and an EFI spec clamp fitted. That clamp is only tightened to "just firm", and then rechecked COLD after a few hours of running.

I have yet to find any barbs that passes my scrutiny, and there have been many over the years.

As I have stated for years, ANY vertical "scratch/score" of the barbs need to be addressed, as that joint will never seal. As for missing sections of the barb, dunno, that would always worry me a tad.

There are a few sections. It seems that somewhere along the lines, a previous garage or owner replaced the hoses (which were dry rotted when I got the old gal) and must have caused some damage... A few of the barbs are damaged. Meaning a tad of it is missing. I was considering checking how many of the barbs were damaged and maybe grinding the ones closest to the injector off (shoould the upper barbs be fine) and then using a clamp at the bottom. Kind of like the older pre-HE injectors used to have... Does that make sense to you?

Hey OB, yeah, really long time... Workload just wasn't matching it all for me...

Nope, no running yet. The tranny is finished, the engine is basically done. Still needs some welding, before I can refit the engine... Really hard to find someone who can do the job I want done properly... Bodgers are everywhere. I need perfection

All fine with your collection of cars? I hope they are!

Good to hear from you but all of my fleet are broken down with Brake Problems of one sort or another, still I expect we will both get there in the end!
