Not at all. They *should be* all the same length except, of course, the two forward most hoses which are longer so as to reach the injectors.
I recall 1.75" hose length for the 10 hoses along the sides and 2.75" for the two front hoses....but my memory isn't always all that it should be :-)
cheers

Yes! But it'll take some time and effort....
This is a prime opportunity to "do the Vee". That is, remove/service/repair/clean everything that resides in or near the "Vee" of the engine all at once while you have clear access.
-Replace plugs, plug wires, dist cap and rotor
-Check/repair distributor vacuum advnace and mechanical advance
-Replace vacuum hoses
-Repair wiring that has been baked to a crisp from egnine heat
-Replace/repair fuel injector wiring harness
-Replace fuel hoses
-Replace leaking oil pressure switch and sender
-Replace throttle bushings
-Repair/reseal cruise control bellows
-Repair/replace/adjust kickdown switch and enrichment switch
-Replace distributor vent hoses and filter
-Synchronize throttle linkages
-Clean away years accumulation of grease and dirt
It's a rare XJS that doesn't need attention in most or all of those areas and it is SO much more practical to do it all at once....and then forget about for the next few years.
If your cam cover gaskets are leaking replace them as well....and your 75% along as far as labor goes
Cheers
