Default How Hard To Replace a Fuel Injector?

To troubleshoot my P0308/P1316 misfire/excess emissions problem I'd like to swap the cyl 8 Fuel Injector but after lots of searching here and elsewhere I can't find a guide on replacing them. The one post I did find said they removed the intake and fuel rails etc to get at them. However the parts diagram shows them held in with a crescent shape clamp with 2 screws holding them from above so why would the entire intake and rails need to be removed?

So what is the procedure for removing and replacing one of these?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

I think I'm correct in saying that on the early cars, the "fuel supply pipe" is sort-of moulded into the intake manifold (later cars and supercharged engines have a separate pipe) so to remove even one injector, you have to remove the intake manifold first.
Never done it, so may be wrong, but that's how it looks on my 1997 engine.

Not hard at all. Use this link to my Vacuum link and scroll down to where I am replacing the intake. You do not need to remove the manifold but it shows how to pull the injectors. When removing them check the seals for blemish and cracks and reinstalling them be sure to lubricate the seals with a good silicone spray.

When looking at the photos you will see a photo of the bottom of the injector check them to see if carbine /sludge exist and if it does you may need to send them out to be cleaned. Do not attempt to do it yourself.

Thanks, so lets see if I have the basics of this right:

1: Make sure there is no fuel pressure in rail.
2: Disconnect fuel rail from hose connection.
3: Remove 2 screws on each side holding the rail on.
4: Lift up rail.

Then remove the injector from the rail and swap out if you do not see carbon buildup.

I knew it couldn't be that easy. (Or maybe it will be easier?) Yours has the newer injector setup. Mine is a early 97 and its like this:

Part of the fuel rain is built into the Intake so it looks like it does have to come off to replace the injectors. Though it looks like removing the half-moon clamp should release the injector.
