Fuel Sender Test
Greg,
That math checks out then! I think I have solved my fuel gauge issue. I can't for the life of me figure out what happened! Did the fuel tank somehow change shape? Bizarre!
If the light comes on after burning 16.5 gallons, I should have about 4 gallons left. Assuming 18mpg....I'm not sure I'd want to go another 50 miles....I should be able to, but I'm not going to want to find out!
20 degree bend it is then! Will report back if I find out anything else, but for now, I'm closing the case on this one.
(For clarity, I am currently using the modified Eurospare branded sender. The OEM I purchased directly from JDHT is now a future spare that has not been bent/modified in any way)

Ahh, I see I never posted that result. Yes, the needle is back to F when full!
Once I did the obvious test, which I should have done FIRST, by plugging the two leads into another sender, outside of the car to see if the needle will go to F, I knew it wasn't a gauge issue. Like I said, I have no idea why the sender gets blocked before it can reach FULL. I shoved a camera inside the tank and can see no obvious obstruction. Everything "appears" normal. No dents, or unusual looking changes to the inside of the tank.

Hi Vee,
Pleased to hear you've got that gauge reading full! Like you, I'm intrigued as to why that sender is obstructed from originally being able to reach full deflection!
Have done a bit of digging and found the following:
Fuel tank capacity on facelift:
Coupe - 23.5 US gallons 19.5 Imperial gallons
Convertible - 21.6 US gallons 18.0 Imperial gallons
(fuel tank capacity from vehicle run dry to first click on the fuel delivery filler nozzle gun)
The low fuel warning will illuminate when remaining fuel has dropped to approximately:
11 litres
2.90 US gallons
2.40 Imperial gallons
So, I wouldn't try and do 50 miles if I were you!
Hope that helps, albeit belatedly!
Cheers
Paul

Just read in a service manual that, “the fuel tank is capable of being filled to approximately 90% of its capacity, the additional 10% is a volume of air which allows for expansion of the fuel without it escaping from the tank.”
That would seem to lower the available fuel I have from 20.5 US Gallons to 18.45 US Gallons.
I do recall not being able to start my car, due to a lack of fuel after burning somewhere over 17 gallons….

Vee,
The text in my previous post is lifted from the owners handbook of a 95 car, including the wording about fill capacity to 1st click of filler.
So that implies you can physically put at least 21.6 us gallons in your convertible.
Cheers

My Post #20 has the values I pulled out of my Owners Manual (for a 96), slightly different from yours, but same point.
Thanks. I guess I don’t have to adjust for air.
Will report back if I have anything meaningful to add.

Thanks guys for great info on resolving gauge issues. I sorted out the zero oil pressure reading (bad connection) but still fuel level reading zero. I soldered the pcb screw contact area to increase the likelyhood of a better connection, hopefully this will cure the issue when I get the cluster back in. I can't believe the Jaguar engineers would come up with such a micky mouse design. Maybe they gave the cluster "wiring" design to the tea lady while they went out on strike 😃
