Default Fuse box

I haven't had time to look yet, but I'm assuming the fuse box is under the glove box?
My windshield wipers don't work at all, so my first guess is possibly just a fuse.

One under the glove box, one in the symetrical location on the driver's side, and another under the hood.

I checked the small box under the hood with 5-6 fuses in it, they were numbered but not labeled and all were good. I figured I'd pull the panel inside tomorrow.
So there are 2 inside? Under the glove box and under the steering wheel?

Any idea which one houses the wipers?

The one in the engine bay is headlights and cooling fan as I recall. Not sure where the wiper fuse is, sorry.

The wiring guides that come on the JDHT CDs have all the fuse info....or go to the Captain Jaguar webpage.

Cheers

I'll figure it out, no problem. Just thought I might glean some info on it until I can get to it tomorrow morning.

On UK spec cars the wiper fuse is No. 9 on the main fuse box (the one under the steering wheel) 35 amps.

Thanks Greg! That will help a lot! Much easier than inspecting every fuse!

Just a couple points about the old glass fuses on Jags.....you're probably aware of all this, but, still......

The Brits used a different amp rating system
Fuse Conversion Chart

Also, the metal end caps often corrode, as do the metal fuse clips. Cleaning them every 10 years will go a long way towards solving those "Lucas" mysteries.

Lastly, the original Lucas fuses can be tricky. The wire might not be burned but, instead, it might be broken off inside the metal end caps. Inspect carefully or use a meter/test light to double check.

Cheers

Hmmm...no I wasn't aware there was a different amp measurements with these cars. Thanks for the heads up!

It had a British 10 amp fuse with an obvious burnt spot on it. I changed it to a 30 amp AGC, so I guess I'll have to go back and change it again.

I have power on both sides of the fuse, but the wipers still don't work. I tried pulling the cowl by removing the 4 bolts but it was hitting on something underneath, so I figured I'd better check before I break something.

Do the wiper arms need to be removed? It looked like it was all one assembly that came out without removing them. Anything I should check first?

Oh, and there doesn't seem to be any drop in voltage (looking at amp gauge) when turned on. I can hear a clicking sound when I pull the wiper switch lever towards me, but nothing when it's placed in any other position.

There were two sorts of wiper mechanism. The earlier one was a Lucas wheelbox one, and the later an electrolux motor with a four lever mechanism. The later one is much better. They changed over about at your build date. If you have the Lucas mechanism, it is a bit hard to get it out, but it will come with a bit of shunting side to side, back and forth etc. The main reason to take off the wiper arms is so you do not poke out an eye!

The click you hear on pulling the wiper lever is the relay activating. So there is power through the system to do that. If you have the Lucas system, like me, I am sorry to say the motors are extremely unreliable when they get old. The best fix, if the motor is bad, I think, is to find a later system at a scrapyard and drop it in. You will lose the interlittent wipe, but otherwise it is much better.
