Default Getting difficult to put car in gear

Lately, I have been having trouble shifting from park to drive. It is now taking me at least a couple of tries before it will go into gear. I own a 1993 XJS 4.0 convertible.

I think we might need more of a description here. "Trouble" is vague. I don't know what that means.

Without understanding the issue, could it be the result of a failing brake interlock? The car needs to know the brake pedal is applied before it will allow you to get out of park.

Difficulty with being able to move the selector out of Park (if that's the problem you're experiencing?) is usually down to the brake pedal switch mounted on the pedal or the brake interlock relay mounted under the ski slope.

Look through the electrical diagram and the workshop manual to understand the wiring and also the location of the two components. Then you can start your examination starting with the signal output from the brake pedal switch.

Good luck

Paul

The shift cable is prolly in need of replacement. Mine has a similar issue going from N to D, and its the cable.
