grinding noise
Hi guys
I am getting a kind of a grinding noise in the rear of my 1990 3.6 XJS.
It gets noisier as I increase speed. Makes the same sound either when I steer left or right. Is this a bearing problem or anything to do with the brakes?
Any help appreciated

My experience tells me that if you get grinding from the differential, you need to be ready for complete failure. Ring and pinion gears don't do well out of alignment. I would bet it is one of your hub bearings, and maybe even the carrier bearings in the differential.
bearing probably. Jack up the rear end and go to each side and spin the wheels some while listening for noise and feeling how smooth they turn. Get under it with a stethoscope, tube, or even long screwdriver and listen to the diff and hubs while you spin.
Could also be a bearing in the diff. Don't forget the u-joints! There is like 5 of them in the back end! Grab the half shafts and see if you can wiggle them around and check there for noise as well.
