Default Hazard switch and turn signal problems

As the title says, I’m currently having problems with my directionals and hazard switch. The directionals worked fine since I’ve bought the car (about a month ago) today after driving I noticed I got no click noise from the flasher, and the turn signals were not coming on. After checking the fuses, that turned out to be okay, with the exception of a little corrosion on the block. I did some research and read too check the hazard switch to see if it’s functional, as it could be a reason for the turn signals not working. When I clicked it in, I heard a noise under my dash that sounded like something shorted, I believe it’s one of the wires going to a fuse. After doing this my instrument gauges do not work, my radio does not work, and my climate control. Did I blow more fuses after using the hazard? I believe the switch functions by grounding two wires. Any help would be appreciated, I’m still learning with Jaguars.

Thank you,
isitajagtho

Now thinking the hazard switch is not properly working. A diagram shows two clips behind the radio that route too the switch. When I smack the dash my rpms slightly jump along with my speedo. Is there any spot I should check in particular for a short or lose plug. Any advice is greatly appreciated

All plugs will need a cleaning eventually, a microfiber and a can of contact cleaner. You can try half depressing the buttons to engage them continuiously which helps 'burn' through crud

Both my XJS and deceased xj6 had this issue forcing the hazard circut on for a while fixed the flashers, you may find this with your window switches to. Again your contacts will need a once over as will the gauge cluster plugs...and the resistor packs in the engine bay while your at it

Resistor packs and other ignition related plugs or relay prongs are not related to your specific problem (unless it IS the relay but unlikely) but its one of those 'Do it all do it once do it right' things these cars will need every 10-20yrs. Most elec issues are solved with cleaning and a new additional ground wire.

.
Thank you I plan on going over all the fuse panels, and relays tomorrow for a thorough cleaning, and the hazard switch. As I said for the gauges not working after pressing the hazard switch, I most likely blew a fuse, right? So if i continually engage the switch will I do any damage? Should I just get a new fuse and go from there? Tried changing #5 and nothing changed. All my lights work besides rh side fender light.

Had this same my problem on my 1989 xjs. If your car thinks your hazards are on your blinkers won’t work. Keep pressing the hazard button on and off, also your the flasher relay could be going bad as well it is under the steering will in the fuse box cover to the top you should be able to hear it click or feel it click if not get it a smack and see what happens

Yes and thankfully these arnt hard to get. Some Jag relays are better replaced with other hella or bosch generics than trying to find OEM.

if you dont blow a fuse Id imagine the issue is lack of energy thus suggesting poor or no connection rather than excess

so I got my blinkers back by hitting the switch, then pressing my hazard at the same time. I’m also sure I blew a fuse to my gauges because of the hazard not having good contact on either pin. I’m going to clean everything, replace some fuses and go from there. So far the hazard switch does not actually work, but turns on my blinkers.

Weird **** happening now, I replaced fuse 3/4, gauges came on, after I started the car and turned it off, everything was dead again. But now for some reason my hazards work but my directionals don’t come on when I hit my blinker switch.

Little wd40, new fuses, and some scraping. She’s back too normal. For now...
