Default Hazey Headlight Lens

I am sure that this issue has arisen many times, but I can't find the threads. On my 1994 XJS the headlight lens are hazy and look bad. I assume that they are plastic...I have tried to clean them to no avail. Are they cleanable? Are they replaceable and if so, where does one get them?

Thanks Whit

I would try cleaning them first, I've used this kit on several of my cars with good results. Just be careful to mask the paint carefully around the lens.

Thanks...I tried that to no avail. Hazing seems to be on the inside or throughout. I'll give it another shot. I have not tried to take them off for fear that they would crack. I guess I should see if they willo come off.

Thanks Whit

I'm not saying this will definitely work or not, or be damaging or not, to XJS lights but I cleaned my 1987 911 headlights internally by removing the headlamps, taking out the bulbs and putting in a mix of kosher salt and rubbing alcohol and doing lots of swirling to abrade the accumulated grayish fogging on the inside of the glass and possibly the reflector. I then rinsed this out well with distilled water followed by repeated rinses with rubbing alcohol to get rid of the water. After drying in a warm place the lights were sparkling again and remain so several years later.

Interesting approach on the Porsche headlamps. I will bounce this off my chemist brother and see what he thinks. I believe that the outer hazy covers on my headlamps is plastic.

Thanks Whit

I need to do this on my newly-acquired XJS (last night), but on my 96 VDP, I was recommended (here) to just pull them out and take them to a sink and just use regular dish detergent in lukewarm water. just slosh it around a bit and rinse it out of course and let dry. That worked VERY well for me. Night and day.

Thanks Dan and texasscott the input. I'll implement this today and see what happens.
