Default Help with Dash Light

Hello everyone, I have a 1996 XJS Convertible and this light comes on in my Jag occasionally for a minute or two after starting. Does anyone know what this light means? Is there a list anywhere describing what all the lights are that come on? I don't have an owner's manual.

thanks for any help.

Look like a "Bulb Failure Warning Lamp".

Not sure about a '96 but on the older models this light would come *only* when you turned the park lamps or headlights on.....and extinguish after 15 seconds or so. Unless, of course, a bulb was burned out.

Others will chime in with better info for a '96 car.

Cheers
DD

this is also what mine does.

I believe when you first turn the lights on the light comes on basically to let you know that it is working and then goes away if there are no problems. It stays on if there are problems. If it ONLY turned on when lights were bad then you may never think you had a light out because you had no way of knowing that the "light out" light was not working.

if it is totally irandom and doesn't come on regularly like we are saying then the later cars may work differently and you may have an intermittent short or open that is jiggling around. saying that it happens after starting though sounds like it is just operating normally

100% correct, the illumination of the bulb out warning light occurs whenever you switch on the lights as a circuit test proof. Only if it does not go out after 20 seconds or so is there a bulb or wiring fault. This is actually explained in the owners hanbook, for once!.

Also, FYI, if you press the brake pedal, handbrake on, engine running, the light will illuminate as a bulb test.

Thank you guys! Love these forums. The reason why I asked because in all the 9 years I've owned this Jag it never came on before. But I think my mechanic fixed some electrical stuff because now my short is gone. I had a short or something that was draining the battery. The battery doesn't seem to drain anymore after my mechanic tinkered around and now this light comes on. So something was changed for the better it sounds like.

thanks for all the help!

Anyone know where I can get a copy of an owner's manual for a 96 XJS?
