Default hit by a Cab Driver

the front of my car was hit by a cab driver who pulled out without looking. Im in California. Im not sure how this is going to work out being that you cant buy new body parts for this car anymore. Im going to try to get repair money without having it totaled.

Does anyone have any parts or know a good source. Cant find what I need on ebay. I need a fender, chrome front trim, and possibly a bumper. i do have an extra semi damaged bumper. I also have enough paint for the whole car...

Any input on this sort of thing? Insurance claim on a classic car... Repairing the damage.

That fender may be able to be pulled back into position by a good bodyman. Shop around and get estimates!

ive seen the chrome bumper blades on ebay for about $150. also, those plastic front bumpers shouldnt be too hard to find. and you could probably get a wing off of just about any facelift XJS, or even prefacelift.

You would be surprised. Those bumpers are very hard to find. I had to replace it a year ago. Cheapest I could find is 1000 at a junk yard for one that needs repair.

Regarding the chrome piece. Will a pre facelift fit? There seem to be plenty of them available. They look the same.

@hoodun

Really sorry to hear that mate. I can't comment on how it works with insurance here as (touch wood) I haven't had an accident here (amazingly)

The chrome trim...... My mechanic damaged mine (car started while in Drive due to badly aligned transmission selector, don't ask) and it took him ages to find one because he said it was unique to the facelfit

Not sure where you are in California, but there is a chap here with a few facelift cars that he has broken for spares.... Jaguar XJS Convertible Parts- 94-96 - HUGE LIST - See Below I don't see the exact parts you are looking for but it may be worthwhile dropping him an email to his Craigslist address with your phone number and he'll call you back

I've dealt with him before and he's reasonable on prices and trustworthy.

Good luck. Don't let the old girl die. As my friend said when he staggered away half dazed from his rolled BMW M3, "It's ok, that'll buff out"

The price really just depends. A brand new facelift bumper just went on e-bay for less that 400.00. I would have bought it if I had the space.

I have seen used ones sell for close to 1K.

This company :

Jaguar XJS Bumper Cover

has fiberglass replicas. Might be worth contacting and asking.

But your bumper looks repairable from the picture...is it not?

It looks hard to fix IMO. The dent itself should pull out easy, but the entire lower front part is bent in. Maybe Im wrong but it seems like it would be hard to get it back perfectly. I will certainly try though.

I almost purchsed that front fender for 450 that was on ebay. Just as a spare and because it was so cheap. Body parts are very hard to find and are not cheap for the 92-96 xjs model. The early ones are not a problem.

Been sending that guy with the fiberglass bumpers emails over the past year and have not heard back from him. Not sure he exists anymore...

This guy said the same thing you guys said. I should fix the bumper. He doesnt have the chrome but he has the side reflector and wants $80 for it.

That really sucks... I'm sorry, fender, and related parts no problem. Bumper cover is rare, despite other folks opinion. There are companies that refurbish them. But to buy one that is either perfect or new is impossible for less that $1500 or so. Refurbished ones can be had for $1000 if you can find one. I have a similar tale of woe...but not as bad as yours. Mine was hit and run in a parking lot, so it's on me to pay for it.

Have you had a look on EBay uk? There are loads of guys breaking on there, I know shipping may be difficult but when done on volumetric it may not be so bad.

Good luck.

$1k? You've been had. At least in a large metropolitan area like Houston, you can find these cars on Craigslist for little more than showing up and towing it off all day long. Use the internet.

I'm assuming you've already called Paul's Jaguar in Florida?

He seems to have lots of parts. He sold me a door and a rear quarterpanel a few years back.
