Hi, I'm upgrading the rack in my 88 XJS to the later style 93-96 ZF unit. On the older racks, centering was done by removing the grease fitting on the adjuster assembly below the tower and inserting a 1/4" rod to land in a center depressed spot on rack itself. I can't seem to find a similar spot on ZF rack?? There is a rubber plug in the same general location as the grease fitting on the old units, but I can't detect any spot to mark center inside on rack itself.
On the ZF rack there is a small Allen headed grubscrew just to the side of the rack tower. Unscrew this using a 4mm allen key, and a pointer be inserted into a shallow indentation that can be felt as a helper slowly moves the steering.

The ZF has more road feel and is slightly less assisted. You feel more directly in contact with the wheels than with the Adwest. It might be a tad higher geared, but it certainly makes the car more responsive-feeling to the steering.
