Default How much can I expect to get for this XJS 94 Convertible

I need to sell my 94 XJS convertible as a fixer upper. How much can expect to get for it?

I just completed a service including engine oil and filter, brake fluid, coolant, power stearing oil, and just flushed the transmission. Everything was perfect for about 20 minutes after the service, and then the transmission started slipping. It's a bust.

It goes in gear and shifts, drives around the block, after a short while it will slip and shortly after that it will not move. Wait 10 minutes and the same thing happens.

It’s a rust free California car, located in Indiana USA. Black on black on black. This car has never seen a winter. Registered and licensed with Indiana plates - Clean title in hand

4.0 litre inline six engine with 218HP perfect condition
Automatic Transmission is Defect
Black Exterior, Leather interior and convertible top in fair condition
17" Original Mono-block rims, Good Tires - full thread
Brakes are almost new

So what do you guys think ? I’m just so sad, and need to realize how little I’m going to get for it

Maybe it’s something simple. Don’t give up so easy.

It's not. When i flushed the gearbox, there was water and sediment in the bottom pan. Probably my gear clutches, almost like mud. And now reverse is a dead cause. I don't live here in the US, Only use the car a couple days a year in summer when I visit from Europe. So it's got to sell NOW and Cheep and fast, as I can't fix it

Price suggestions anyone? Please? I'm really in a time crunch to get rid of it, as I'm leaving Indiana in 2 days

It happens when high mileage transmission gets flushed. All the deposit comes loose and clogs up those tiny passes and valves.

Please, could people advise me on what asking price should be ??

It is not a flood car. It was a very "dry" car from California, and I brought it to Indy in 2016 where it is VERY humid and moist, and standing still for 360 days a year (for 3 years)

So at one point I'm sure it sucked in moisture through dry seals etc. The valves are clogged and the Sediment I found in the bottom pan was rust brown muddy burnt clutch residue, very smelly. I'm not looking to fix it, just pass it on at a fair cheep price, and need advice on a price to expect.

Please, could people advise me on what asking price should be ??

Tried that, I didn't get any bids, I did however get enough suggestions for new Asian girlfriends, multiple links to virus pages, and a hernia ...

All I need is some info of price range to expect for it. I'm posting it on EBAY now, and need a Price to post with it. I won't take small change for it, so I'm going to post it for asking price. I just need to know if that's $1.000 $500 $2.500 etc.

I would start it at 100.00 and put a reserve at 4,000.00, if the bids get up to 3,500.00 and no more bids 12 hours before ending lift the reserve.
Do put a reserve so you don't lose it for little of nothing.

Sorry, thought it was a V12.
I went back and deleted it.

2,500.00 seems a bit low from the looks of your pics, hopefully the bids will go higher.
If it was in Oklahoma city I would give 2,500.00 for 126000 miles it looks super clean.I love that hood, bonnet.
Wishing you luck.

Agree —pictures suggest the exterior and interior condition of the car is very nice. If transmission is its only problem, $2500 would be a nice gift to somebody

BTW, how much would a used replacement transmission cost? After all, this car does look like it is worth at least $7K - $8K with a good tranny, meaning that letting it go for $2,500 would make sense only if the tranny's replacement cost was over $4,000 to $5,000. Would it be that much?

Reinaldo, you are certainly on to something here.

While certainly not my cup of tea, this is more than a typical '94 XJS. People seem to really like the black on black on black, so that's a good start. The fact that someone took the time to black out the signal lights, headlights, etc. means that this might be unusually popular with the right set of folks.

That being said, it would certainly be worth looking into and pricing a tranny for this thing. At $3k, installed, with a transferable warranty, this could get to that $7k-$8k range, just because of the modifications to the body. (1996 wheels on a 94?)

At the end of the day, it's still a gamble. I could certainly see someone shying away from investing $3k into a car hoping for a significantly better return. Nothing is guaranteed.

Well, with the car's assets/highlights that you just brought up, I'd say it's worth to risk a $4K tranny. That's what I'd do if my tranny went out because of what I have on my XJS, the many valuable improvements in every category could not be ignored and thrown away just because of a tranny expense. In my case it's a no-brainer and that may just be the case with Englevakten's, other than his time constraint issue.
Cheers,
