How to Program a New FOB 1996 XJS
I've been searching the threads here and cannot find a definitive answer. Can someone please help me?
I'm looking to add a second remote to my 1996 XJS.

I don't know if this will work but you can try it:

I don't think that link will help and the security system in the later XJ8/XK8 is different.
The security system on the XJS is kind of antiquated.
Assuming yours is a factory system, this is the only procedure I know...

Actually, the way to get a 96 in programming mode is to:
1. Turn the car on (not engine)
2. connect the yellow w/white stripe wire with the black wire (I used two twist ties to make the connection from the back of the harness plug)
3. Turn the car back off
4. quickly tap the two wires together several times (somewhere between 5-8 times)
You'll hear some wacky noises come from under the hood. Difficult to hear with the windows up, so make sure they're down.

On my '92 MY the easiest way is to disconnect the battery - reconnect then push the remote button every time the alarm beeps. If more that 1 remote push each remote until beep stops (5xs or 5 remotes) ie 1st beep , remote 1. second beep, remote 2....if less that 5 remotes push 1 of them at each beep. simples.
This assumes that the alarm back up battery will be of no use by now...lol

EBAY of course . . . . . you must check that you search for the right frequency though. Undo the four screws and open remote up. (Change the battery while open) It will be on the board. I believe the US uses 318MHz. part number should be on the back
