Default How to read/clear codes on a 1993 XJR-S?

I am working on a '93 XJR-S. Basically it's a sporty XJS, v12, big wheels and a trunk mounted spoiler. The electronics seem to be unique to this car, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to retrieve codes or clear them. I set a code while checking the O2's, and now I can't clear the thing! I tried disconnecting the battery, etc... as recommended by my service information. Nada. Anyone....?

With the Zytec engne management system?

There was unique software to use on (no doubt very clunky old) computers to interface with the on board diagnostics. Not sure if that's needed to just read and clear codes or not. Others will chime in.

Go to the "How To" sticky thread at the top of this section, then Downloads, then Tech Guide. Then look for the S80 1993 XJRS Product Support document. The info you need is probably in there somewhere.

Cheers

I have a brand new XJRS factory service manual for that car I can sell you. I think it will clear after quite a few key cycles. It may be more than 100. When we get one of those cars in for service I contact the Jaguar Hotline & they send us the suitcases with the laptop & parts to fix the car.

I've heard about 'the suitcase'. How does that program work and who is "us"? Who do you have to be?

I have an XJ220 in my care and am dreading the day when I have to sort out/diagnose a Zytec problem. I believe it requires the same suitcase.

A couple years ago it was running poorly and had a CEL. Fresh plugs and fresh gas fixed the car and the CEL went out all by itself. I thanked my lucky stars on that one!

Cheers

You will struggle without the correct management kit (as previously stated). There's a chap that I know that has all the factory Zytek kit and the software which he rents out. Hop into the facebook group and post your query on there - sure he'll be able to help.
