Default Ignition amplifier

If I reposition my amp away from heat do I still need shielded cable?

You're referring to the 'dreaded white wire', yes? It isn't a heat issue. The shielding is a matter blocking electric 'noise'.

I would keep the shielding, personally. But perhaps it isn't strictly required depending on where you plan to move the amp.

Let's hear what others have to say

Cheers

I m at the thinking about it at the moment and the only shielded cable with original o/d size is from China mainland with over a month delivery time.

I moved mine to the front of the car (on Grant's advice) and it is sited on the apron in front of the radiator mid point where the horns are. It is up on studs so it is completely in the airflow. No shielded wire between it and the point it joins the loom near the OEM amp position on the B bank inlet manifold. 100% no problems at all for years now. Do it, the amp runs properly cool, but you must very carefully waterproof it with silicone gunk all round the join on the casing, and ensure it is properly earthed.

That's where I was thinking it could go. At least the wire will be here quicker. 🤔😐😃

As said, maybe, more than likely no.

Mine are all of the RH side front apron, like Greg's. and the wiring runs up the RH inner guard channel, and picks up the shielded wire in the aperture behind the RHF wheel, just before the Bulkhead connector.

The owner of The Goose, wanted his on the LH side, replacing the 2nd coil position, and shielded wire, so simple old TV antenna cable, 30cents a mtr, sweet as.
