I have been checking my ignition timing on my 85 HE and found I have a few problems.

It turns out the prevoius owner has disconected a lot of the vacuum system due to failing parts and fiddled the timing to get it running.

I have priced all the parts I need and it comes to more that I think is reasonable considering I can fit a proper mapped ignition system to the car for less money and probably have a more accurate ignition map with modern electronics.

My first question has anybody done this before and what system did they use and how did they get on?

Secondly has anybody an idea of how much advance these engines need at all the rev and throttle positions? I guess 10 TO 14 degrees is about right for idle and 42 is the setting for 3000 rpm at no load because that is the factory settings ( 30 plus 12 degrees of vacuum ). I am sure I will be able to find the best settings by trial and error but some factory settings would be a good start if anybody has them.
