Interesting V12 tune up
Hi all.
Been messing around today settling the throttle linkages up. It’s quite amazing how sensitive they seem to be. I set them up last year and got the car running lovely then a few weeks ago I fitted some new throttle rods my daughter got me for my birthday. I measured them up so they looked the same and fitted them to the car so I didn’t have to set it all up again. Wrong this threw the settings out with stalling from a warm start returning. I have always use Grants tune up document but I have seen somewhere the the throttle gap should be set to 0.003” so I gave this a go. Car ran quite rough and I had to wind the hot tick over screw all the way in to get 750rpm. The car was missing and not really right anyway set it all as Grants instructions with 0.002” throttle gaps and all is well. 750 rpm tick over is with the screw around half way out. This just shows how sensitive these engines are and need the correct settings. Cheers for all the info Grant really much appreciated. Anyway this is enough of my ramblings but it just might help someone.
Rob.

Thanks,
When they be right, SWEET, when they be wrong, DOG.
AND
Never, ever forget, the V12's are all female.
By that my years of observation are:
They LOVE to be pampered (AKA fiddled with)
The LOVE the attention
They get hissy when a new toy arrives.
They LOVE to be driven HARD and STRONG, no shopping trips for the V12, get into it.
You get the drift of the rest.

TB and throttle linkage must be set up cold, and then the idle ( on the AAV bolt ) should be setup hot, also the pivot bracket bushes are in good condition , as they can fall out over the years..
the TB links need the slightest amount of play so the TB rest on the stop screws where the 2 thou is set , as when the engine bay warms up , the throttle rods can extend through heat and actually lift the idle by pushing on the TB's , so if the idle is high when hot, this could be something to check
BB
ps, i have brand new pairs of genuine Jaguar NOS throttle rods that are complete in new packets for sale if anyone is interested
