So far I've:

*Removed A/C compressor, lines and cooler. I live in northern New England and it's a convertible. I'll only have it out on days when I can put the top down, so the A/C is kinda pointless.
*Removed air pump, idler pulley, airtubes, tapped and plugged air injection holes in intakes with allen screws.
*Removed cruise control bellows. (I prefer my foot on the pedal!)
*Removed Lucas alternator and replaced with higher AMP GM alt.
*Gutted the insides of the downpipes and hollowed out cat-converters.
*Removed factory mechanical fan and replaced with electric.
*Replaced fuel injection harness and most all of under-bonnet wiring.
*Upgraded ECU
*Replaced 15" wire wheels with Jaguar 16" mag rims and 235/60/16 tires.
I'd guess I've probably easily removed over 200 lbs of "stuff" with the above mentioned mods.

Next on the list is to remove factory fuel regulators and replace with single adjustable regulator with built in gauge.
Replace factory airboxes with cold air intake and low restriction air filters.
I've got a few other things on my list I plan to do as well.
This list almost identical to mine, except I still have original alternator, but my starter is gear reducing Nippondenso (awesome improvement).
Do you mind telling me that Upgraded ECU exactly means?

If this is correct, then you just carefully ensure the new harness wires go into the same places as the old ones did on the power resistor?

Yes, the injectors fire in 4 groups of 3, but I am unfamiliar with the BMW harnesses and how they are configured. For that you'd have to have someone elses imput!

I went from a 6cu to a 16cu. It was on the later models.

I heard that 16 CU does not work on HE that easily, did it plug and play into '83?

The 16cu is an exact swap for the 6 cu. It has more reliable circuitry and I think more modern, than the 6 cu. This info comes from AJ6 Engineering, the foremost authority on these matters, AFAIK.

Got it in the mail today, car runs! It does not hold idle as good and it seems a bit rich on the mixture, so I assume some tuning is in order.
Overall, it is a success, thanks!

Kirby Palm describes procedure in detail, but it has to do with adjusting one and only potentiometer on the ECU box. The rest is adjusting TPS position and measuring O2 sensor readings. to make sure car runs not too rich, or lean.

Just for the record, you can make a cheap and easy adjustment tool for the ECU lean/rich adjuster. I took a 6 inch long piece of metal fuel line (I forget what size though) and ground the end of it a little thinner, then squeezed a flat spot onto it. It works quite well.

Drove the car for the first time today from my driveway to my neighbors and back. Each driveway is nearly a 1/4 mile long, but the car isn't registered so I didn't dare take it out on the road. I put the top down and the ole' girl seemed to go pretty good!
Here's a pic with the top down but without the parade cover over the top.
