Default jag flooding with gas when accel.

my 94 4.0L "floods" when I press the accelerator...
at any speed, when I press the pedal, it hesitates, then some little gray/black smoke and then it picks up and goes.

my dad suggested carburation, but since it a 94... maybe timing? it has fiarly new spark plugs and wires...

any ideas?

thanks

I'm no expert, but I would look at the simple things first. Dirty/clogged air filter, dirty throttle body (they collect all sorts of crud), dirty MAF. Bad 02 sensor.

The rest I will leave to the experts.
