Latest on Exhaust Systems 2024
Hi Folks: I posted about ten years ago about exhaust systems in XJS but didn't actually change mine at the time. But now it is getting more serious in terms of rust holes, etc. So I have been doing a lot of searching on the net about what people are saying and doing and what are for sale. It appears that generally no complete systems are available (N America) except from the UK - and by the time they get into Canada with duties etc. you are looking at perhaps CND$2500. And subjectively it looks easier to get V12 systems than 4.0l 6 cylinder ones? And most of the chat on the forum over the past 20 years appears to say that people are just doing whatever they think might work without an overall pattern of assembly of systems?
Does anyone have a clear successful new system they assembled from parts that are relatively easy to assemble/obtain and actually fits underneath the car? And doesn't dramatically change the sound or pollution? And stainless steel preferably.
Also, I am told the cats on my system (1992 4litre facelift) are not real precious metal cats. Is that correct for that car?

Years ago I had a custom system built and had the rear pipes go under the differential (they flattened the pipes to aid clearance) and I can say that makes a world of difference in terms of ease of install. And as long as you use a center and rear muffler, most muffler choices would be agreeable .
