I've moved your question from the Jaguar Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) thread in General Tech Help to XJS forum.

Members here with the same model will be able to help.

If its a convertible,
its probably hydraulic fluid from the hood mechanism. Is it on the left hand side?

That sounds confusing.

Pink fluid would tend to indicate an ATF-type fluid as fitted in Auto gearboxes, PAS systems or possibly a convertible pump motor. But not diff fluid.

But I guess if you've got a 1983 car, then you've got a Coupe, not a convertible. Unless it's been converted as an aftermarket conversion?

Are you sure it's coming from back right corner? Have you got a converted convertible?

I've never been good at left and right. When I said left I meant right as that's where the convertible reservoir is. However, being British I also assumed boot was trunk. Then I see the photo and think "that's the front suspension and steering rack" and the boot is the bellows piece - the boot!
Looks like its power steering fluid? Best i can do!

That is power steering fluid from a leak from the steering rack, which needs a rebuilt one installing in its place.

well he said "the boot", so noone blames you. I was actually coming back to this thread to make a point of letting him know that little progress has been made because no one has any idea what he is talking about, but are being too polite to be more direct about it.

Thats like saying "the door hinge" and referring to the gas door.

Glad that pic was posted though, I had honestly no idea what he was on about, it made zero sense lol.

Definitely need to rebuild the rack or buy a rebuilt one, it is toast!
