Hi all. New member, long time classic car enthusiast. Just purchased a 1994 XJS 4.0 in mint condition with 30,000 miles. Can anyone recommend an excellent mechanic who works on classic Jags in the Orlando area? The Jaguar Doctor only works on cars 1996 and newer. Willing to travel up to 40 miles to find a great person/shop. Thanks in advance

Ask him why. 94 was a split year. The early one used OBD1, the later cars used OBD2.

Forget the "year". It gets too confusing with US owners using different classifications to the rest of the world. Just work on the VIN which is how changepoints are identified. if your car is VIN 194774 (April 94) or higher, most independent Jaguar places will be OK, as it uses an OBDII plug. If it's pre-194774, it uses a bespoke Jaguar interface plug and software.

Thanks for the replies. I was aware of the changeover to ODB2. My car has the older ODB1 with VIN ending with 189377.

If they can't work on a car of this age without OBD I wouldn't let them near the car - guess I'm too old school. People really need to stop applying todays ways with cars from the era these were created in, electronics was barely out of diapers and was both crude and inefficient. You need to find a mechanic that was active in the 80's / 90's as the newbies are clueless without their laptops.
