Talking Hess & Eisenhardt XJS

I am happy for you! You have a very rare vehicle. Many have put these vehicles down and lambasted them for not being able to get parts for them and...and...and... I found one in a barn in southern Ohio 3 years ago (black exterior and tan interior) and have never regretted the decision to get it. It is like yours with the v-12. It had not been started in 4-5 years, approx. and needed the fuel removed and etc. Let me just say there were only 838 of these made, contrary to all the numbers that have been tossed around for years. It is one of the rarest Jags and is an eye-catcher wherever it is. I just got mine started yesterday and it will be on the road shortly. It is a good match with another XJS convertible I just picked up(1993, black, with tan interior, 6cyl). A bit of advice...take care of the seats, watch the ball joints, check both of the thermostats and flush the cooling system! HAVE FUN!

i agree that the prices of XJSs are terrible low, for a great car.
just yesterday, i was talking with a knowledgeble muscle car guy(has many cars), and when i mentioned Jaguar XJS ,he cringed and said the worst piece of junk ever made, especially the electrics and rust problems.

kinda hurt my feelings!

here is mine,1978 V12 roadster, complete engine overhaul, including 4 speed auto trans, LSD rear end, many upto date modifications, new shocks ,joints , anti-roll bars, brake upgrades (Wilwood calipers), 18" wheels& tyres, NO rust anywhere,$7000. paint work.

complete redo interior, Recaro seats.

brought it to an auction, and was totally insulted, bids were like your car value!

it seems that we can never get past the bad reputation they got 20-30yrs ago.

People who know nothing about these cars will say what they know about these cars. The ignorant speak ignorance because they do not know any better. We know how these cars are because we have one or more. Every car will have its ups and downs but to dismiss an entire line of cars as junk that has had massive quality improvements made, is simply foolish. I have a Hess & Eisenhardt, a 90, a 91 and a 93 XJS convertibles. The 90 and 91 are getting sold but I have come to see the good and the bad in these cars and the good far outweighs the bad. Enjoy your "Cat" as they will be a great classic.

For what it is worth, I did not think $2700 was unreasonable. You wont get much for $750, I did think those estimates were reasonable, at least not in my area, mid Michigan.
