I wish you luck. It's a "Holy Grail" car, and the people who own them are generally reluctant to sell.

I'm also in NYC and I seldom come across an XJS worth owning but they do pop up from time to time. 'Round here the good ones are few and far between and if you do happen to come across one it's usually the wrong color combo. But like anything worth possessing there is a certain amount of hunt that goes along with it and sometimes the hunt is part of the experience. You may have to broaden your search area a bit to find the right car. Relatively speaking for the NYC metro area there seems to be a few good ones worth a closer look. It seems like the nice weather is bringin' out the convertibles.

A few weeks ago I saw an XJS parked in front of one of my customers places of business. This white and tan 90's v12 XJS looked new, perfect paint, perfect body, perfect interior. I was intrigued and asked the owner where he found this car...he told me Florida.

Are you look for a real Lister or Lister look-a-like. There are many Lister look-alikes out there done to various degrees. Sometime an XJS with a wing and body sill kit is called a Lister. A real Lister with its 7 liter v12 and the bespoke ratio 5 speed are going to hard to come by. Those would be serious collector cars at this point and when they did come up for sale they would probably be dealt at one of the auto auction companies like Leake, RM, Russo & Steele or the few others who's names escape me.

I have a beautiful 89 xjs convertible in signal red with 40k miles. Love love the car. Love it so much that I want a coupe version that is more about performance. Have already done intake / exhaust upgrades, so was looking for the XJR-S / Lister models that had higher compression, horsepower, etc.

Thanks very much for the response..

SPL,

Congratulations on the good taste, especially the Lister! A Lister Le Mans Convertible with a full 7 litre supercharged package is my ultimate XJS!

It's one of the few times when living on that side of the water makes it difficult for you to find the right car. I'm not sue why the US were only to have those 100 XJR-S in 1993 when it had been a standard model over here for 4 years. And it's teh same with Lister & Lister Le Mans. There's more over this side. As you probably know, there's a big variety of styles and engine configurations from 4 litre, through 5.3 litre, right up to 7 litre and supercharged options. If you do find one, there's reasonably complete records as to which engine was fitted to each chassis number.

Still, it could be a good opportunity to get an XJS with the steering wheel on the side that Jaguar intended! There's always one or two for sale over here.

The Lister would be the ultimate performance XJS. The XJR-S is really nice but will have similar performance to a standard late 6 litre XJS. Mind you, a nice convertible one is a pretty car.

Very best of luck with the search

Paul

I've had lefties (Porsche 911s, Mercedes tank like thing, Renault estate and an Alfa Spider) in the UK and righties in France (XJ40, XJR6, XJS and, strangely enough, a Lister XJS) and never came across any problems other than having to stick more of your car out into the oncoming traffic to see if it is clear enough to overtake - usually never a problem in the Lister, it was always clear enough to overtake!

Just curious. If you looked into that one in Manchester, was it a real Lister?
