Problem that I can think of is 13" wheels usually only come about 5" wide (like Minilites). And whatever you find will have to be machined to be "hub-centric" probably. Sorry, I dunno about the maximum tire widths.

in steel,i used to make wheels, custom sizing, cut a center from another wheel and using 2 wide halfs, setup in a lathe, slowly rotate with dial indicator, get within a few thou. and tack and weld up with(stick back then), wire weld it together!

worked well on many cars, they didnt make wide wheels in the 50s.

and with 13s ,sure be a conversation starter!

lets face it,none of this crap is practical or logical,BUT SURE IS FUN!

HEY were car people.

some guys look at mine and say overkill, maybe so, but i aint copying anyone.

LOL!
You're my kind of car guy, Ron.
We like what we like.
We like being different from the next guy.
We choose our own path & stick to it, and, we really couldn't give a flying F#CK whether anyone else likes it or not.

Screw overkill. Your car is a monster (in a good way). It's kind of a hotrod take on the XJ-S, and that's cool. Though it just occurred to me right now--have you considered a colour change?

There is a.company near me that widens wheels like that. They did it on my neighbors Malibu wagon. Pretty cool stuff they cut the center out of a 15 inch wheel put in there own rim and changed the offset and everything.

But I don't actually think 13 inch wheels will work. Because you won't be able to clear the front brakes.

car colors, time changes minds, if i were to change car color it would be Platinum Silver.

but as it is paint is,on 1 to 10 a 9.9, and to make me happy it would cost around $10K.

cost me $5K 20yrs ago, best paints that could be bought(in USA).

actually the paint on my XJS is a one of a kind custom mix, called by mixer ,Champagne
Silver. but it is a 20yr old mindset, things change, we all do wether we like it or not

I just noticed this thread, so I'll toss this out. These rims are for sale in the next province, does anyone recognize them and will they fit my '89 XJS?

How about real mag wheels.. like 15 by 10 or 14 by 7 fronts with 15 by ten in rear.

This guy is the best. he restores and polishes back to better than new. 50 year old rims

i saw your car on google lol..

well I believe 13s can be made to fit.. but yes they will be skinny. I plan to see If Diamond racing has there deep dish steelies in that size but if anything 14 by 7 with 15 by 10 will do justice

I may still find something I like better in the coming weeks, but, for now, it's looking like these will be my next set of wheels for JagZilla -- in 18X10s all around.

Hi All, first post and sorry for reviving an old thread but this is one of the best I've found related to the XJS wheel upgrade question and I bet there are more people still looking into it (like me)
I'm bringing an 88 out of long term storage and believe it or not it's got the original Pirellis on it (yes they are rotten) and looking into upgrading to XKR or XJR or XK8 wheels mostly because of the lack of tire selection in 15" but not having any luck yet. Further research showed the XJ6 and 8 guys using BMW E39 wheels so I looked into that but the offsets seem to be too far off for an S.

So long story short (too late lol) has anyone got 17 or 18 8" with et20 offsets on their car? I found a couple of sets of e39 BBS Style 5 in 17x8 et 20 which will bolt on but again the offset is a question. I did the math and it appears the rears will be quite far out with the tire just barely clearing. Will probably need to roll the quarter panel lip. Thanks in advance.

I think the most popular upgrade for our model is going Lattice Alloys but as I understand it I thought Lattice Alloys had already become a regular on the 88 model?

Can anybody verify?

Mine's 85 so Starfish back then was the standard.

Nice example of an XJS by the way

My '88 had the Starfish. The Lattice wheels came on the 1989 MY cars.....in the USA.

In gets confusing because of the variances in calendar year versus model year for different markets.

It's probably safe to say that the Lattice wheels came out during 1988 calendar year.

Cheers
DD
